The "Castle" is one of several ancient Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan) villages within Hovenweep National Monument, which straddles the Utah/Colorado border. In the Ute language, "Hovenweep" means desolate, which could be an appropriate description for this country, but the ruins are spectacular.

Lodging

Participants are responsible for their own lodging. We will be in Durango most of the week with one night spent in Blanding, Uah. For convenience in Durango I suggest the Durango Downtown Inn (800 Camino del Rio—970-247-5393) which is only a block from the historic downtown area and is attached to Applebees Restaurant. There are numerous options for lodging in Durango and you are always welcome to make your own lodging choice.
